Dorset is one of the most beautiful counties in England and has been the inspiration for generations of writers, poets and artists with its rolling hills and spectacular Jurassic coastline.

April Cottage & Lapland Lodge are located in the tranquil hamlet of Harmans Cross with the main local attractions being Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove, Swanage Steam Railway (Harmans Cross Railway station 5 – 10 minutes walking from Cottage), The Jurassic Coast, Brownsea Island and the famous Studland Beach. The nearby seaside resort of Swanage with its Old Harry Rocks are a popular place to visit and The Purbecks provide bikers and hikers with some of the most spectacular trails and walks starting right at our doorstep.

We are also within easy reach of Bournemouth and Poole with its quay and natural harbour, Weymouth with its Sea Life Park and Dorchester with its museums, famous Wednesday Market and Thomas Hardy’s birthplace. Blandford is another nearby attraction with its Hall & Woodhouse Brewery and the Royal Signals Museum.

Wimborne can also be worth a visit with its market and the old market town of Wareham is not far away with its scenic river offering boat cruises to Poole and Brownsea Island.

The famous tank museum is a short drive from Harmans Cross in Bovington, which offers a fantastic historical outing for young and old. Monkey World is another venue worthy of a visit and is hugely popular with all generations.

"A great stay at April Lodge. Peter and Joey are welcoming hosts and were on hand if we had any queries. Our rooms were cosy, spotless and were kindly refreshed every day. The garden is very pretty and where we enjoyed Peter's superb breakfasts. In terms of location, it is fab if you want to explore the area: 5 mins to Corfe Castle, 12 mins to Studland, and 30 to Durdle Door."

"Fabulous breakfast and wonderful hosts! The full English breakfast plus fresh local fruit were served every morning in the breath-taking garden by Peter. We stayed in the double bedroom (with en suite) upstairs and our sons stayed in the twin bedroom (with private bathroom) on ground floor. The rooms were meticulously cleaned and very nicely decorated with artifacts from Peter and Joanna's travels around the world. "Our family stayed in all 3 available rooms to include the Lodge and as we had 2 young children (including a 1 yr. old) that needed to go to bed early having the lodge gave us a place to be during the evening to enjoy sitting out or in sharing drinks and board games. A truly unique property, fabulous location with superb hosts where nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was fabulous, locally sourced and own grown produce. Could not fault a thing. Cannot recommend enough and would certainly stay again."
