Dorset is one of the most beautiful counties in England and has been the inspiration for generations of writers, poets and artists with its rolling hills and spectacular Jurassic coastline.
April Cottage & Lapland Lodge are located in the tranquil hamlet of Harmans Cross with the main local attractions being Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove, Swanage Steam Railway (Harmans Cross Railway station 5 – 10 minutes walking from Cottage), The Jurassic Coast, Brownsea Island and the famous Studland Beach. The nearby seaside resort of Swanage with its Old Harry Rocks are a popular place to visit and The Purbecks provide bikers and hikers with some of the most spectacular trails and walks starting right at our doorstep.
We are also within easy reach of Bournemouth and Poole with its quay and natural harbour, Weymouth with its Sea Life Park and Dorchester with its museums, famous Wednesday Market and Thomas Hardy’s birthplace. Blandford is another nearby attraction with its Hall & Woodhouse Brewery and the Royal Signals Museum.
Wimborne can also be worth a visit with its market and the old market town of Wareham is not far away with its scenic river offering boat cruises to Poole and Brownsea Island.
The famous tank museum is a short drive from Harmans Cross in Bovington, which offers a fantastic historical outing for young and old. Monkey World is another venue worthy of a visit and is hugely popular with all generations.

We stayed two nights in the Lapland Lodge in the garden of April Cottage. No words can reasonably describe this stunning garden and waking up right in it. The lodge is fun, quirky and beautifully kitted out with lots of really thoughtful extras. Fairy lights and candles and surrounded by the reindeer skin covers really make this a unique and magical experience.
Great location and exceptional hospitality. Everything was within 10 minutes driving distance away: Harry's Rocks, Studland Beach, Kimmeridge (Jurasic) Coastline, and Corfe Castle. Peter and Jo are lovely and their home is charming and cozy. Coming from the city, we found the garden to be extraordinary and charming, much like a small arboretum. Peter serves an exceptional breakfast - probably the best you can find in the UK. Lots of lovely small touches that delighted us and made us smile- I'll spare you the details so you can discover them yourself.
Thank you J and P! We'll definitely be booking again!
Stunning location with first class hospitality. The best breakfast I have had in a B and B! Wonderful professional hosts with very helpful advice. The cottage, garden and lodge are stunning and very well maintained. Very comfortable and welcoming. Would love to stay here again.
This lovely B&B, do a fondue evening from October through to May in there charming lounge, superb fire and sooooo cosy. We went there when it had been snowing. It was my first time to try a Cheese Fondue. Swiss Cheese Fondue, which we had with lovely small pieces of bread and new potatoes and sweet fresh tomatoes to dip into. It was stunning, lovely friendly couple Joanna & Peter who own the B&B. Would definitely recommend to this.
Lovely little lodge in beautiful surroundings. Very clean with lots of special and thoughtful touches. Great location near to Swanage and Corfe Castle. The hosts Peter and Joanna were very welcoming and friendly and the breakfast was far beyond the standard B + B offerings. Highly recommend the lodge and the hosts
